The AI and social media erode democracy. But how does it make that thing? Do we blame wires and algorithms for things that we do? Things like social media and information networks are tools that are easy to blame. We can blame the wires that they convey false information between actors. The problem is that we never ask who makes that falsified information.
Who is responsible for the creation of information? The response is in the users of the social media. The thing that overemphasizes the toxic talk and toxic publishing in social media is that. Those things with a colorful rhetoric make them popular. The AI is a tool. That uses algorithms that select the most popular publishing and homepages.
The thing that makes this thing dangerous is that the propagandists conduct the clicks to their publishings. And that raises their page rank. The toxic writings are colorful. They might seem funny. But the thing is that every single click to those publishings increases their page rank. Another thing is that negative things sell.
Many people who read the news read only their headlines. That is the thing that makes everything look different from the news. But we don't read the text in the news. We read only headlines. The problem is that the news and headlines might be different.
We can blame algorithms for the toxic and falsified information. But we forget to ask do those algorithms and codes create texts and images that they publish?
People who use social media are the actors who make the information that is traveling in social media. It's absurd to blame only algorithms and codes for toxic comments and writings. Those things raise toxic comments and overemphasize them.
The toxic comments are also used in so-called "official media". Their purpose was to make the text more colorful and funny. But they caused sometimes personal tragedies.
But the users who use social media. Are creators of the texts and publishings. They create the texts that they publish. So is the creator of the text responsible for what they publish? We can say that the person who writes or publishes something has responsibility for what they say and what they write.
The negative and alarming news are good tricks for selling news and newspapers. The base of that marketing model is the theory. That alarming news forces people to buy the newspaper. That is when people see negative or alarming things. That makes them react immediately. They must know what is happening right away.
They don't have time to consider buying the newspaper. Because the human mind is created to protect us against threats. The threat is the thing that requires immediate reaction. The positive things don't need a fast reaction and people have time to consider do they buy newspapers.
That is one of the ways to market things. The thing is that social media is an application that requires marketing. The colorful speech brings colorful people to the users. But the big problem is that. Toxic speech and publishing collect too many clicks. When we blame something, we must not blame algorithms.
The algorithm is not the only thing that makes toxic speech visible and overemphasizes it. The people who use social media have their own responsibility for the things. That they share. It's true. These algorithms raise the toxic writings to many users. But the writers of those toxic comments have responsibility for the things that they write.
